Mr. Rice needs to get the building into usable condition before trying to put in a septic system. It's too bad the paper didn't publish a picture of the back side of the building. You'd see how much work needs to be done.
He had a building permit at one time and didn't get enough work completed. He needs to get his ducks in a row and attack the project properly. Get a project plan, which will give you a platform to get public or private funding, then you can present it to the trustees. If you show them you are serious with a plan and money, I'm betting they'll give you the zoning permit. Duh.

I agree that the building should be restored, and if the township need the land and can afford it, I see nothing wrong with helping by buying the land. However: I would prefer that the land remain with the building and perhaps the park system could incorporate the restored building into a drawing card for the parks.

Hmmm. . ."trustees acknowledged that buying the land might help Rice in his efforts to restore the hotel. . ."
Sounds like if the trustees get their way, he may be able to continue with his plans? It seems to me this little town would love to have a building with such a rich and important history restored and in a usable condition once again. How sad our history is permitted to rot on the corner. Is no one in the community interested in helping this man restore this landmark? I hope he can continue with this plans. Mr. Rice - in case you need some financial aid from a grant, check this site http://www.nps.gov/nhl/QA.htmor http://www.doi.gov/n...09.html or http://beta2.ohiohis...1.html Excerpt from the site: Limited Federal grants through the Historic Preservation Fund are available; Landmark owners should check with their State Historic Preservation Officer to find out about the availability of Federal and State funds. Often State and local governments have grant and loan programs available for historic preservation; these funds tend to be for small amounts. National Register listing is a condition for receiving grants and loans from many State and local governments as well as private sources. Some funding sources give National Historic Landmarks higher priority for funding than other National Register properties. There are also Federal income tax incentives available for donating easements and for rehabilitating income-generating historic buildings. Sources of information about these programs are included in the reading list. Login above or Register to comment. |
