Crestwood boys, Southeast girls take first-day lead at PTC Metro track meet

MANTUA -- The Crestwood boys and Southeast girls hold the early lead after the first night of action at the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division Meet at Crestwood High School on Wednesday.

The Red Devils' boys have 39.5 points, followed by Ravenna (37) and Kent Roosevelt (35.75) after five events were completed.

The Southeast girls are in first place with 39 points. Kent Roosevelt is second (36) and Norton third (27) after five events.

The Crestwood boys were led by double-champion Bryan Wagner, who won the discus with a throw of 155-9 and the shot put with a toss of 49-9.

The Red Devils also won the 4x800-meter relay as the team of Josh Franek, Brandan McGee, Danny Lieberth and Ian Jones were clocked in 8:30.2.

Ravenna's Roy Davis captured the long jump with a 19-9.25 effort.

The Rough Riders' Braheem Wahid won the high jump with a leap of 6-0.

In the girls meet, the Pirates took the early lead on the strength of a pair of wins by Nikki Murphy, who won the discus with a heave of 127-10 and captured the shot put with an effort of 40-5.5.

Also winning individual girls events on Wednesday were Courtney Long of Field in the high jump (5-0) and Tanesha Howard of Ravenna in the long jump (15-2).

In addition, the Crestwood 4x800-meter relay team of Nicole Cozzone, Caitlin Goggin, Ashley Burns and Samantha Vaughan came in first with a time of 10:07.43.

The Metro Division finals will be held Saturday at Crestwood High School.
