Jean Louise Echelberry

Jean Louise Echelberry, age 84 of Newton Falls, passed into eternal life at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Allan Dell Assisted Living of natural causes. On March 15, 1924, in Lordstown, OH, John & Helen (Lyntz) Davis were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Jean. Jean was a graduate from the Lordstown High School and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Jean married the love of her life, David Echelberry on June 16, 1946 and enjoyed 54 years of blessed marriage. He passed away on April 3, 2000. Jean had lived in the Newton Falls area all her life, working as a teacher for the Southeast School District for over 30 years before retiring in the 1980's. She was also a substitute teacher in the surrounding areas. Jean was a Charter Member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls. She was also a member of the Braceville Garden Club, Braceville Senior Citizens Club, Newton Falls Senior Citizens Club, Trumbull Co. Retired Teachers, and the Portage Co. Education Association. She enjoyed playing the clarinet & xylophone in the Kent Championship American Legion Band, the 4H Band and the Cortland Community Band with her late husband David. Jean and Dave were instrumental in organizing the U.S.S. Iowa Reunion Association and traveled many places over 20 years with the reunion. Her passions were gardening, traveling, and golfing. Memories of Jean will be carried on by her loving family, her daughter & son-in-law, Vicki & Donald Young of Newton Falls; her son & daugher-in-law, Ron & Connie Echelberry of Mantua; her grand daughters & their husbands Jennifer Young of Columbus, Jacalyn Young of Newton Falls, Kerri & Matthew Bigler of Mantua, and Kristi & Thomas McKinney of Milford; her grandson Justin Young of Newton Falls; and her 7 great-grandkids Alex, Karli, Ryan, Jack, Kaylie, Kelsey and Nicholas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm. Friday, May 9, 2008 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls on Saturday, May 10, 2008 where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Newton Falls Cemetery. The family asks that contributions go in the form of donations to the Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512-2198 or the Messiah Lutheran Church 4920 Fairport Road Newton Falls, OH 44444.
