Blanche Ellen Mills, 80, of Kent, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at her home. She was born November 8, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana to William H. and Beatrice (Stouff) Egan. This picture shows what was the cornerstone of Blanche Mills life: her children and later her grandchildren. She was from a large family to which she stayed close all of her life. But her children, all three of whom she had by natural birth, were especially the objects of her love and concern. She enjoyed raising them, enjoyed dressing them up and was proud to show them off. Of course not everything went smoothly as they grew up and became adults, but nothing could alter her devotion and care for them. She encouraged them in music, in art, in the reading of good literature -- in the exercise of all their talents. She always stood by them no matter what happened or what they did. Of course there were other things in her life. She loved New Orleans, and Seattle, where her children were born. She made frequent trips home to see her old friends and her family and to enjoy the city and its food. She attended all the great parades and some smaller ones as well. And she made many trips into the countryside to visit the great old houses, mostly former plantations. But New Orleans was her special place. For years we lived in the French Quarter, one of the most enjoyable times of our lives. But for her the main thing was her people, her friends. And what was true of her life in New Orleans became true in Kent. She loved working at Robinson Memorial Hospital and came to know and like many people there: nurses, aides, doctors, secretaries-- the whole range of people. She was a woman of great feeling and will be terribly missed. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd L. Mills; son, Ralph Mills; daughters, Ellen Mills and Jane Atwood; grandchildren, Celia Rae, Benjamin DeVorss, Justine DeVorss, A Z Wallbrown, and Paul Warner. Memorials can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, 2831 Prospect Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115. (www.kfohio.org) (216)771-2700 - Lloyd Mills (RC 05/10/08)
