Donald Dwight Brillhart

January 25, 1918 May 12, 2008 Donald Dwight Brillhart, currently of Marshall, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday afternoon during a nap with his beloved dog, Skipper. Don was born and raised in Henry County, Ohio. He graduated from West Hope High School in 1939. Don attended Asbury College and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University (formerly Fenn College) in 1948. Dons Fenn College years were interrupted (June 1943 April 1946) by service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Staff Sergeant Brillhart performed the duties of an Engineering Aide with the Army Air Forces Air Technical Service Command, Wright Field, Ohio. He worked with the Project Engineer involving the development and service testing of Radio Navigation Equipment (AN/ARN=6, Radio Compass). The traveled to various sections of the country supervising installation and testing of the equipment. Don participated with a crew that flew their B17 Flying Fortress to Fairbanks, Alaska, for cold weather testing. Coming back to Cleveland after his Honorable Discharge, Don graduated from Fenn College and married Kay Chant. They lived in Maple Heights, OH, for forty years and moved to Marshall, TX, to be near daughter, Barbara. After fifty-one years of marriage, Kay died seven days into the new millennium. Mr. Brillhart founded, and retired as President, of Pro-Chem, Inc. Chemical Solutions to Industrial Problems. He holds three patents for coolant/grinding lubricant/corrosion control, two involving lipids, and one for a non-sulfur diesel fuel. Don spent the most recent decades studying fats and fatty acids. He is a partner of LipoTech, LLC, working toward the betterment of human health. An avid student of the Bible and Chemistry, Don worked long hours researching and defining his Judeo-Christian Science philosophy. He authored a 266-chapter encyclopedia, Lord God Almighty, on his beliefs. A high school Sunday School teacher for over a decade at Maple Heights United Methodist Church, Dons Biblical knowledge and Christian conviction put his faith to practical use. Don found a new excitement in life working with dozens of teenagers who asked thought provoking questions. Church activities also included singing in special mens choirs, serving as a Delegate to the East Ohio Conference and chairing the Pastor Parish Committee. Since moving to Texas in 1995, Don has been a member of First United Methodist Church in Marshall, Texas, and active in the adult Sunday School class. Mr. Brillhart is a 50-year member of many associations with recognition from The Camp Fannin Association and the American Chemical Society. He also was a participating member in the Association of Consulting Chemist & Chemical Engineers, the American Society of Lubrication Engineers, the Cleveland Engineering Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Ohio Academy of Science, the Philosophy of Science Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, American Oil Chemist Society, Whos Who in Lubrication, and Whos Who in Engineering and Industry N.E. Ohio. Don is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Nora Brillhart, wife Kay Chant, and oldest brother Gale Brillhart. Don is survived by his daughters D. Noreen Demas of Columbus, OH, and Barbara G. Gould (Larry) of Marshall, TX. His surviving brothers are Chalmer (Agnes) Brillhart of Bradenton, FL, Meryl (Jean) Brillhart of Edon, OH, and Norris (Margaret) Brillhart of West Unity, OH. Don is also survived by five grandchildren: Mark Demas, Adam Demas. Nathan Demas, Scott Gould, and David Gould, and two great grandchildren: James Demas-Moore and Alexis Demas. Don will be missed by his many friends and family. He will be remembered for his faith, intelligence, personality, happiness, generosity, good humor, stubbornness, love of travel, and great stories. Don has been a good steward and faithful servant. It is good to know his soul is home. A graveside funeral service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Marshall, TX, at 3:00 on Friday afternoon, May 16, 2008, under the direction of Sullivan-Heaster Funeral Home.
