How to vote for a write-in candidate

Bob Gaetjens
October 31, 2007

On Tuesday, not all candidates seeking election will have their names listed on the touch screen ballot.
To vote for a write-in candidate:
The voter must touch a prompt on the right side of the screen asking if they want to write in a name.
A screen will appear that will allow the voter to type in the name of the write-in candidate they want to vote for.
After a voter types in a candidate's name, the screen will ask the voter to confirm the name they typed, so they can retype it if they made a mistake.
Misspellings won't count against a candidate. A vote will count as long as board of elections workers are able to tell the intent of the typed named.
Only votes for write-in candidates certified by the board of elections will be counted. Any other names typed in will be disregarded.
For more information, call the board of elections at (330) 297-3511 or visit www.co.portage.oh.us/election/index.html.
