People are RUDE to people on WIC or Food StampsApril 5, 2008
I am 25 yrs old, married, with a 1 yr old and pregnant with my second. I am on WIC and just applied for food stamps. I do not work simply because I am pregnant and its pointless to have a weekly paycheck go out in daycare and gas to get to work, so my husband works. We can't afford to pay the $130.00+ a month in baby formula because of the cost of everything else. I believe anyone who wants to have kids should be able to have kids, and not get a rude look and someone saying "GOD How many kids do you have?" while standing behind me in line cashing out at Giant Eagle. It for one is no ones business how many kids I have or how many kids anyone else has. And yes a rude man did say that to me and my husband Tuesday at the Ravenna Giant Eagle while we was buying for our 1 yr old using WIC. Then before he came into line behind us a lady was behind us and shook her head and walked off. People are rude and make you feel like we shouldn't feed our kids. As prices go up on everything it means less to my husbands paycheck which means guess what I'm applying for Food Stamps, and I don't care what anyone says or thinks. Alot of people cannot afford to live from week to week anymore. I don't look down at know one and never will, because I've been there and know what its like. I have worked up until I was 3 months pregnant with my first, and had to quit because they only offered maternity to full-time and they was replacing me while I did take off. To those of you that make good money and don't need the assistance, I'm happy for you and please mind your own business and you should really treat everyone equal. You never know if your job will be there next week and someday you may need the help and have to be in my shoes. I just figured I would write this and put in my 2 cents. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. Atleast I hope not. Thanks! Comments

Happy Mothers Day! Shannon's Citizen Opinion, posted more than a month ago, has become one of the Top Ten. It has been interesting and revealing reading the posts to her opinion.
Especialy with the political events playing out on a daily basis. There are plenty of things that need to be addressed that are being ignored and overlooked. One thing that should not be taken for granted or withheld from women and infants is the nutrition that sustains them, giving babies the opportunity to become healthy people. If you want to complain about how your taxes are spent, be productive about it and complain to the right people. Those comments need to go to the people who can make a difference - those in elected offices. They are the ones who started all of the programs now referred to as entitlements, they are the ones who control the monies are spent and they are the ones who can bring about changes - if they wanted to. Otherwise, all we do is vent. That doesn't fix anything. Those who are abusing the 'system' don't care and those who are truly in need are reluctant to use it.

Ok, here is what I don't get. What are some of these people doing to be able to get enough to spend on steaks, lobsters, shrimp, whatever and still have enough to feed their families? I am on assistance for maybe a month more(hopefully not that long) b/c I had a baby. Now before some of you start cussing, I had a job and at 4 mo pregnant I lost it. I did receive unemployment and it ran out right before I had the baby so its just my husband bringing home the money for right now. But I don't even get enough to possibly buy that crap. I get enough to help me w/ maybe a week and a half worth of groceries. I make the most of what I get because I am grateful I get anything at all. I don't understand what these people are doing to be able to get enough for this. Hell, I can't even afford steaks w/o assitance!!! I'm not going to lie, being on assistance is a disgrace. I hate it with a passion. Our family was doing so well with everything. We had started making a little headway, and SMACK we were dropped down again. I had been on assistance a long while ago, and I know how good it felt knowing I didn't need it or even qualify for it anymore. So I know both sides of the fence. So, if I were in line, and anyone said anything to me or under their breath you better believe I may possibly be asked to never come back to that store again after I got finished with you b/c you have no idea on the what's and why's of my situation. But I do know there are people that do abuse it, but how are we ever to really know (unless of course they have $100 dollar bills in their wallets that we can visibly see) what is going on in someone elses life? That did happen to me a LONG time ago. I had tried applying and was denied b/c I made to much. I had went to the store and got behind these people who were paying w/ foodstamps and the guy openend up his wallet to pay for the items that were not covered and he had probably a thousand or more in $100 bills. NO JOKE!!! OMG, talk about me being ******!!!! So, I know what some people on here are talking about, but there are more than a few of you on here making ridiculous posts that sound ignorant as ever!!!! Yes it is good to see some people are so passionate about a certain topic, but HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope those of you who have never had to be on it never do. And I do hope they change the laws on the eligibility of this assistance. And I really hope that those of you who are on it, find a way to get off of it. Would I love to stay at home all day, well DUH!!! But unless I win the lottery, or my husband makes serious $$$$$$$ I don't ever see that happening!!! Prices for everything is too high for me to stay at home and afford to live comfortably!!! So, everyone just is going to have to deal w/ the high gas prices, and food prices, and work!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't want to pay daycare like us, then do what a lot of people do (and what we are having to do) and work split shifts so someone is always home to take care of your kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a way out of almost every situation. It may be hard, but we can only hope it will get easier. That is how I get through the day sometimes.

People on welfare would be rude to if they werent getting so much sleep and leisure time, along with good food and free medical.Possibly they might even be so tired they wouldnt notice if people were staring at them or not. Awhile back amongst all these posts some lady had said maybe we should be nice to the people on food stamps and give them some money to go buy there kid an icecream cone or something. Well how about some of the people on welfare be nice to us tired working people and give us some of there free steaks I doubt there feeding to there kids anyways.

So to sum up the definition of RUDE : (1) those who think having children is a right (2) those who believe other people are responsible to raise aforementioned children

Sounds great Skully but could you imagine the "class" of a handful (some not all) of your neighbors. Haven't you ever seen some of these subsidised housing places there is no pride of living there. Again it's expected that everything is a handout, when it should be a hand up. This topic infuriates me. The churches, neighbors and community should help their fellow man out not the government. That way the neighbors, church and family would be able to say things the gov't can say, like "get a job, get off your rear, quit having babies, get a life, you get in return what you put out there and on and on." This sense of entitlement drives me insane!

Hey give me a card I can basically charge $400 worth of groceries on and anyone feeling feisty can call me names, or sneer at me. Sure beats a hard weeks worth of work because I have made the decision that child care and gas are too much money and I want to stay home with my child. Luckily many people have pride, couples work split *****, barter with family and friends for daycare or the husband works overtime or a second job. Hey maybe she could get a paper route and take both kids with her. ? Just a thought. Someone who is voluntarily under employed shouldn't be entitled to be on the dole. I think those receiving assistance should have to do some labor time for the county or state unless they are physically limited. They can do clerical work, heck make em go visit the elderly at the county nursing home with no family. Something, anything obviously without a job they have plenty of time on their hands. I bet if that had to work in some fashion to work off the free food card amount at some public entity they'd all of a sudden not need that food card so badly.

Well i have been reading the posted letters online and i don't like the fact that poeple are making fun of people that have to use the system during hard times that they are having due to whatever the cause shall be.. who cares if it is your tax dollar paying for any of the assistance they have to recive.. some day someone else just mite be you going though hard times.. if i was you people i would just shut my mouth and deal with it.. All this will do is cause a war!!!! people would have good jobs be making the money we used to.. There is nothing wrong with wanting help when you need it... YES there are people who are just using the system But it is up to the GOV to bust them not you!!!! you people that have your jobs still and are making enough money to pay all you have to you don;t need not say a word about any of us.... cause you are no better then we are.. I had a good job until i was laid off and that is when things went to hell for me i have two small childern and daycare is a expensive to pay i been there done that..i payed daycare out of pocket it is no joke.. they want to much money for that even if people have jobs making min wage or a little above still is not enough to pay anything i been there to. I don't get money from assistance. it don't matter what i get or don't get.. it is just stupid they want that all payed back. who has more money than anyone of us.things are messed up all over worrying about the war all the time rasing gas food and ect to make ends meet. i'm still looking for a job it will come soon... you people need to mind your BUSINESS and not mine or other peoples.people that are making fun of other people at Ravenna giant eagle you need to walk in there shoes first.your no better than anyone else!!!!!!! UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN THERE AND KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE ANYONE ELSE...WHO NEEDS HELP TO GET STARTED AGAIN if you have someone that wants to babysit for you it would be alot better for you to go that route you won't get any help with day care either if you or someone else can do it yourself that is just the way the system works so they don't have to help you.... But people like myself DON'T have that luck i will have to pay myself or apply for help....when i get another job....... AND I WILL SOON
