Isn't It enough already Waterloo School Board?

For the second time in three months, School Board member, Brian Pusateri called another Board member, Denny Hopp an A**HOLE during a regular school board meeting. Although it was not heard verbally - the word spoken softly to himself was obvious to the members in the crowd.

Its one more example of why Waterloo cannot tolerate the old school behaviors of the board.

You are right BP, we don't trust you - or any of the board members, except for Denny - AND, in fact, you are wrong when you said to Denny that he is part of a "group". The truth is that people love Denny because he does not follow the group and we truly need more like him - members who can think for themselves.

Unless you start answering our questions and taking action - the levy will never pass.

To dmars, it is not about the money, I would pay every cent I have if it would gurantee my children having a competive edge when they graduate. It is about changing with the time, and having respect for those whom pay your salary. It is about having my children being kept safe, and yes Viking mom, it will do some good, even if it were only to show our children that we care enough to stand up and demand the best for them. They can not ignore this much longer, because more and more people are becoming involed. We all want the best for our children and we deserve answers for even the simplest of questions. Thanks!

Will it do any good? Voiceing concerns to a board that dosn't care what the parents or community has to say? They look at us as pests! We need to figure out how to get them to listen. What is it going to take for them to LISTEN?? They are more concerened with being right! By making a change they are essentially admitting they are wrong. And we can't have that!
It would be nice to get people in there that are always striving to do better. There is always room for improvement.
I am at those meetings - and some of those board members egos enter the room long before they do.

I think it is becoming more clear, based on the new posts, that we need a change at Waterloo!! I hope everyone that is writing, or just reading, will show up to the next school board meeting and voice your concerns.

dj - what about the 50,000 we spent to update our security system, yet we don't use it to full capacity, so why did we spend the money? Mr. Herchek stated that we don't want the feeling of a "jail like atmosphere". My comment, I'd rather have my kids in "jail" than on the 6 o'clock news.

dj - It is true that Rootstown is within $50 per pupil on spending, and they have all day kindergarten, AP classes, and an Honors program. Maybe they aren't paying their treasurer 80,000 a year. Maybe their superintendent isn't double dipping? Just some questions to ponder.

chequers,

thanks for the info. I am so frustated at teh busing thing and you know that is a scratch on the surface. yes, why not have full day kindergarten, everybody else does. why not have honors groups or special languages... I will definitely be involved and show up at the meetings. please let me know when the next group meeting is and i will bring others too...

signed,

enough is enough, and furious as heck... (stryker)

dj- u must be a board member or one of the five people who have no contact with reality. You know much about how much the district has saved - then come to the community meeting and bring your facts - we would LOVE to know the facts about such things. Many people in the adminstration say this same kind of B.S. - "we have saved money" - maybe you have, but just maybe we don't believe anything u tell us now and its time to come with hard core facts. To be honest - you are the very 1st person to say something in support of our board in the 5 months I have been involved in this. Quit worrying about mils - its a confusing system - our focus is the per pupil spending. Just look to the last Vikingram mailed to your home. Says we are just like Rootstown, actually more per pupil cost. So why can they have full day kindergarten, AP classes, Mandarin Chinese foreign language ?
Oh - stryker, did u hear about the school board member who had the bus routes changed last year to suit their kids? In fact two buses came by their house each morning during the same bus run time just to accomodate. So, your perception is reality.

dj,

What rock have you been hiding under? You can talk to just about anybody in the district and they will complain about the school board. I have no qualms with the teachers. I think they are fantastic!! I have one child who finished shchool here, one child who is going to school currently, and my last child is entereing in the fall. I am a local business man who sees that our school isn't run like a business!! I see school busing where buses are empty running down the road sometimes two following each other. I am sure there are many areas that could be reviewed. If all is done that can be then I wouldn't mind giving, but, until then this turnip won't be squeezed.

I think the Waterloo school board has done a great job. I have had three children graduate from Waterloo. I think you should look at how much money this board has saved they have not ask for new money since 1995 this does'nt happen often. Maybe if we were rich people willing to support new programs and our school we could do more. But as you know we didn't pass a 4.5mill levy. Look around at other schools with much higher mills.
