Kent City Schools has announced on Saturday in a press release that Roosevelt High School will join the Suburban League, pending board of education approval on Tuesday, September 17.

Assuming the move is approved, Roosevelt will join the Suburban league beginning the 2016-17 school year.

Roosevelt has been a member of the Portage Trail Conference Metro Division since its formation in 2005.

“We have appreciated and enjoyed our tenure in the Portage Trail Conference and will miss the competitiveness of this outstanding conference," Roosevelt principal Bob Klinar said. "However, we are also looking forward to becoming a member of the Suburban League, with its rich tradition, support and emphasis on the total student/athlete in academics, athletics and the arts.”

The Suburban league currently has seven programs, including Copley, Nordonia, Revere and Tallmadge of Summit County and Cloverleaf, Highland and Wadsworth of Medina County.

Roosevelt is not alone in making a move to the Suburban as The North Royalton Post reported Saturday that North Royalton, a member of the Northeast Ohio Conference, has also accepted the league's invitation
